Where Villa Cielo Azul Sits
On a rainforest hillside in Jardines del Morete, above Uvita on Costa Rica's Southern Pacific coast — about five minutes from Uvita town and its beaches, with a wide view west over the jungle to the Pacific.
The house faces the sunset: its covered sunset deck looks out across roughly 180 degrees of jungle and ocean horizon. Below sits Uvita, the busiest town on this stretch of coast, with supermarkets, pharmacies, banks and a long list of restaurants a few minutes' drive away, and Marino Ballena National Park with its whale's-tail sandbar close by. For the region itself, see Where You Are: Costa Ballena.
Arrival & Access
A two-wheel-drive car is sufficient to reach Villa Cielo Azul. The drive from San José airport (SJO) is about three hours fifteen minutes on paved highway.
Most guests rent a car at SJO; a private shuttle or the short domestic flight followed by about 45 minutes by road are the alternatives. Because GPS can be unreliable in the area, guests are given directions to an easy meeting point in Uvita and are guided the last few minutes to the house in person, so it helps to share your progress on the drive down. The owner, who built the house and lives about fifteen minutes away, welcomes arriving guests himself. Check-in is from 4:00 pm and check-out by 10:00 am. The wider picture is in Getting Here and Roads, Rental Cars & Transportation.
The House, Level by Level
About 6,500 square feet over four levels: the main floor with the pool, living, dining, kitchens and two bedroom suites; an upper floor with three bedrooms and a lounge; a lower game-room level with the garage; and a new studio casita on the carport level.
From the covered carport the main entrance opens straight onto the ocean view. The great room has a 65-inch TV, surround sound, a wet bar and a frameless sliding glass wall onto the sunset deck. The chef's kitchen has a granite island with bar seating, stainless appliances and a commercial gas range, and there is a second, open-air kitchen beside the pool with a covered gas grill. A formal dining room seats fourteen, and an indoor-outdoor dining pavilion faces the ocean.
Upstairs are three bedrooms and a central lounge with a 65-inch TV and wet bar. The lower level holds the game room — air-conditioned, with a 55-inch TV, wet bar, full bathroom, darts and foosball — next to a secure garage with the laundry. There is a dedicated workspace, fiber Wi-Fi at 200 Mbps, air-conditioning throughout, and a crib, bassinet and high chair for young families.
Pool, Hot Tub & Outdoor Living
An infinity-edge pool with a baja shelf and a built-in “dry” lounger in the middle of the water that seats up to sixteen, plus an oversized hot tub that seats fourteen or more.
The pool is the centre of the house. Its shallow baja shelf wraps around the in-pool lounge, so a group can sit together surrounded by water, and the owner points out two shallow areas suited to children. Beside it are a whirlpool bar with a 65-inch smart TV, an outdoor wet bar, a sunken sofa lounge, daybeds and covered terraces for shade. The covered sunset deck, with ceiling fans and a dining set, is where most evenings end.

Bedrooms & Sleeping Arrangements
Six bedrooms with seven beds — four king and three queen — sleeping fourteen. Every bedroom has its own bathroom, and there are ten bathrooms in all: nine full and one half bath.
The bedrooms by level:
- Main floor (pool level) — two king suites, each with its own bathroom; one opens onto a covered garden terrace.
- Upper floor — the master suite with a king canopy bed, a bathroom with a deep soaking tub, walk-in shower and ocean view, and a private balcony; a king bedroom with a covered balcony; and an ocean-view bedroom with two queen beds.
- Carport level — the new studio casita, about twenty steps from the villa entrance, with a queen bed, full bathroom, kitchenette, air-conditioning, a workspace and its own covered ocean-view deck — a natural choice for a couple who want a little separation, or for a remote worker.
The game-room level below the main floor adds a full bathroom of its own. The price is for the whole house, so it does not change with the size of the group.
Food, Chef & Concierge
A bilingual concierge with more than twenty years of local experience plans the stay at no charge — you pay only for the services you choose — and a private chef can cook at the villa.
The concierge arranges airport transport and drivers, the private chef, tours, restaurant reservations, in-villa massage, private yoga and grocery provisioning before arrival. The chef charges a flat preparation fee and groceries are paid separately; breakfasts, family dinners and celebration meals are all possible, and the formal dining room is built for them. A caretaker lives on an adjacent property and is on hand if anything needs immediate attention. A washer and dryer are free to use, and beach towels and beach chairs are provided. Markets, fish and restaurants are covered in Food, Groceries, Chefs & Eating Well.
Beaches, Town & Days Out
Eleven beaches lie within about five to fifteen minutes of the villa, and Uvita town is about five minutes away.
Each beach has a different character; the owner notes that many families choose Playa Hermosa, which has lifeguards. Nauyaca Waterfalls, horseback riding, mangrove boat tours, whale-watching and snorkelling in Marino Ballena, zip-lines, ATV tours, surf lessons, kayaking and diving are all within reach. The beaches are covered in Beaches & Ocean Conditions, and family planning in Families & Multi-Generational Travel.
What to Understand Before You Book
A few honest notes, so the house is exactly what you expect.
It is a group house, priced for the whole villa, so a small party pays the same as fourteen. The house is spread over several levels, and the newest bedroom is the separate studio casita on the carport level. GPS is unreliable on the last stretch, which is why arrival is met in person. This is rainforest: wildlife visits often, and bug spray is useful in the mornings and evenings. Minimum stays apply and are longer over the holidays; current terms and rates are confirmed when you enquire.
Who Villa Cielo Azul Suits (and Who May Prefer Another)
It suits large families, multi-generational groups and friends celebrating together who want everyone under one roof with resort-style outdoor space; smaller parties may prefer a smaller home.
Its strengths are scale, the pool and hot tub, the game room, the chef-ready kitchens and dining room, and easy access by ordinary car. Guests who want to walk to the beach should look at homes nearer the sand; couples or small families will find better value in a smaller villa — see Choosing a Villa and 4x4 & Beach Access.
