Who We Are

Pura Villas is a small, family-run company with a curated collection of private luxury villas along Costa Rica's Southern Pacific coast — around Uvita, Dominical, and Ojochal, on the stretch known as Costa Ballena.

At the heart of it is Shannon, born and raised in Costa Rica on land her Florida-native grandfather settled in 1969. She has spent her whole life on this coast, and over many years of welcoming guests she has become less a manager than a quiet local guide — the person who knows which beach is calm this month, why you'll want the 4x4, and what the howler monkeys are up to at dawn.

Shannon and her husband Ben built Pura Villas together. Behind every booking there are also Marin, who keeps the operation running smoothly, and Adrian and Jordan — the hosts on the ground who know the homes, the roads, and the rhythm of the area.

What Pura Villas Does

Two things. For guests, Pura Villas curates and hosts stays in a small collection of private villas on the Costa Ballena — seventeen homes at the time of writing, each with its own villa guide on this site.

For homeowners on the same coast, Pura Villas offers booking management and full property management. That side of the company is explained honestly — including when Pura Villas is not the right fit — on the For Homeowners page.

Why This Knowledge Hub Exists

After years of guest conversations, the same questions kept arriving: Do we need a 4x4? Can we walk to the beach? What is the green season really like? What happens if someone gets sick? The answers existed — but they lived in thousands of messages, not in one place.

The Knowledge Hub is that one place. It is written from real guest questions and the local team's answers, and it is deliberately not a sales site: no urgency, no “dream vacation” language, no pressure. Just the region and the homes, explained the way we would explain them to a friend.

You are welcome to use it whether or not you ever stay with us.

The Two Websites, and How They Fit Together

This site — guide.puravillas.com — is the knowledge layer: regional guides to the coast and villa guides to each home, kept honest and current.

The main site — www.puravillas.com — is where the villas live commercially: photos, availability, rates, and booking. When you're ready to look at dates, that's where to go.

How We Work With Guests

Staying in a private home gives you more freedom than a hotel — and a few more questions before you arrive. Our job, before you come, is to help you feel oriented rather than overwhelmed. Some guests like to plan every day; others prefer to keep it open. We're comfortable with both.

During the stay, the support stays local and personal — sometimes arranging a driver, a chef, or the week's groceries; often simply answering a quick question, or reassuring you that what you're seeing is perfectly normal for this part of Costa Rica. Most of the time, guests don't need much. That's exactly how it should feel.
