Costa Ballena is three small towns strung along roughly half an hour of paved coastal highway. Almost every villa sits in the hills above one of them, and which one you pick shapes the texture of the week — where you buy groceries, where you eat dinner, what the beach looks like when you get there. It does not limit you: guests routinely shop in Uvita, surf in Dominical and eat in Ojochal in the same week. Villas Above Dominical & Dominicalito
Six homes, mostly on the ridges above Dominicalito Bay — the closest thing here to a beach-town base with a view.

Villas Above Uvita
Eight homes — the widest choice, and where all three no-4x4 options but one are found.

Villas Above Ojochal
Three homes, all in the jungle hills — the quietest end of the coast, with the best dinners below.

Does the Town Actually Matter?
Less than the villa, more than you would think.
Because the coast is short and the highway is good, no town locks you out of anything — every beach, waterfall and restaurant on this stretch is reachable from every villa. What the town decides is the small stuff that adds up: how far the late-afternoon grocery run is, whether dinner is a five-minute or twenty-five-minute drive in the dark, and what you see when you walk down to the water in the morning.
In practice we would choose the house first and the town second, with two exceptions. If you want to eat out most nights, base near Ojochal. If you are travelling with children who want to learn to surf, base near Dominical.
