Welcome

An observational guide
to staying at Casa Colibri.

Casa Colibri is one of the most easily accessed villas in the Pura Villas collection — a four-bedroom modern home on a small private hill above Uvita, with a clear view of the Whale’s Tail and a setting that rewards slow days more than packed itineraries.

This page is not a listing. It is an observational guide to what staying at Casa Colibri actually feels like, drawn from twenty-two guest reviews, fifty-one confirmed bookings, and the team’s own time at the home.

Where Casa Colibri Sits

Casa Colibri sits on a small private hill near Uvita, in Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific region. The villa is one of only three homes built within a private enclave that shares the name Casa Colibri — a small, three-residence luxury neighborhood designed and completed in early 2024. The compound shares one access drive and a night-time security guard.

The villa overlooks the Pacific and Marino Ballena National Park. From the pool deck and the upper level, the Whale’s Tail — the sandbar that gives the park its name — is clearly visible across the tree canopy.

Casa Colibri is roughly three minutes by car from the beach, and about five minutes from Uvita town. Most guests who plan to explore the wider region use a rental car.

Getting Here

One detail that consistently surprises guests is how straightforward access to Casa Colibri actually is. Many villas in this part of Costa Rica require a 4×4 vehicle because of steep, gravel, or rough access roads. Casa Colibri does not. Access is from the main road, paved, and short. Guests have arrived in standard sedans, minivans, and rental SUVs without difficulty.

For arrivals into Costa Rica, most guests fly into San José International (SJO) and drive south, or take a domestic flight from San José to Quepos Airport (XQP) and continue by road. The concierge team can arrange airport shuttles, rental car delivery directly to the home, or a combination of both.

The Architecture and Design

Casa Colibri was completed in March 2024 and reads, throughout, as a brand-new home. The architectural language is modern, light-filled, and intentionally restrained. Double-height ceilings in the dining area, large glass walls and sliders, and wide openings between indoor and outdoor space all serve the same intent: to keep the jungle and the ocean visually present from everywhere in the home.

Materially, the home reads as tropical modernist. White rendered volumes are framed by dark trim, deep cantilevered eaves shade the glazing, and polished travertine flooring carries indoor and outdoor surfaces together. The result is a home that feels architect-designed rather than developer-built.

The Bedrooms and Sleeping Arrangements

Casa Colibri has four ensuite bedrooms, each with a king-size bed and a private balcony. Two of the bedrooms also include a single (twin) bed within the same space, useful for families travelling with a third person or a child.

There is also a separate workout room with a full-size Murphy bed, its own exterior access, and no en-suite bathroom — so it functions best as a dedicated movement space with occasional sleeping capacity rather than a fully equivalent fifth bedroom.

The Pool, the Whale’s Tail, and the Outdoor Spaces

The infinity pool is the visual centre of the villa. It measures 8.4 metres long by 2.4 metres wide, runs chlorinated rather than saltwater, and is not heated — though the natural water temperature in this region is surprisingly warm year-round.

The Whale’s Tail of Marino Ballena National Park is visible from the pool deck and from the upper level, framed by mature tropical trees. A covered outdoor seating area sits beside the pool, and a built-in Sonos ceiling sound system runs through the living area, kitchen, and pool terrace.

The Atmosphere and the Soundscape

Casa Colibri is set within mature tropical forest. Toucans appear regularly — particularly in the early morning and late afternoon. Howler monkeys move through the trees around the property and are heard at dawn, sometimes startlingly close. Sightings vary by week and season.

The villa is close to a small section of the national coastal road, which means an occasional car is audible during the day. The compound is set back and the sound is intermittent rather than continuous — part of the trade-off that makes the access so easy.

What a Day at Casa Colibri Tends to Look Like

Mornings at the villa are generally early. Toucans arrive in the trees, light fills the double-height dining area, and the air is cool enough for coffee on the terrace before the sun strengthens.

Afternoons in the rainy season often bring a passing storm, enjoyed from the covered terrace. Evenings are quiet, often with a private chef arrangement or a meal cooked in the open-plan kitchen. The pace is unhurried.

Who Casa Colibri Suits

The villa suits guests who want a clear ocean view, easy access without 4×4 logistics, and a home that feels both private and uncomplicated. It is well-matched to small families, multi-generational groups, milestone celebrations, couples, and small groups of friends.

It also suits guests who appreciate calm, modern architecture and don’t need lavish interiors. Guests who work remotely have stayed comfortably here; Wi-Fi is reliable and the kitchen supports longer routines.
