About
Not marketing and not a sales pitch — practical context, shaped by years of hosting real people in real homes across Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific region.
Many of the guests who stay with Pura Villas arrive already drawn to this part of Costa Rica. Some have visited the country before, others are arriving for the first time, and many are curious about what staying here will actually feel like beyond what photos and listings can convey. This section exists to offer that perspective.
We live here, work here, and experience this region as part of daily life. We also travel ourselves, often in similar ways to our guests. Along the way, we’ve learned which questions matter most, which concerns tend to surface quietly, and which details rarely show up in guidebooks but shape the experience in meaningful ways.
What follows is not marketing and not a sales pitch. It’s practical context, shaped by years of hosting real people in real homes across Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific region.
Pura Villas represents a curated collection of private homes across Costa Rica, with a strong focus on the Southern Pacific region. This is not a marketplace with hundreds or thousands of listings, and it is not a hotel brand. Each home is selected intentionally, and each stay is supported by a local team that knows both the property and the surrounding area well.
Some homes are fully managed by our team. Others are owned by private homeowners we work closely with. In all cases, Pura Villas remains the primary point of contact for guests, coordinating the stay, local support, and concierge services.
From a guest perspective, the experience is seamless: one team, one line of communication, and local support throughout the stay.
Staying in a private home naturally comes with more freedom than a hotel, but it can also raise questions before arrival. How do we get there? What should we expect? What matters most to plan in advance, and what can be decided later? Our role before arrival is to help guests feel oriented rather than overwhelmed.
Some guests enjoy planning in detail. Others prefer to keep things open and flexible. We’re comfortable with both approaches and adjust our level of involvement accordingly. Before arrival, we typically help with understanding the area and home location, arrival planning and transportation options, what to expect from the home and surroundings, and the practical questions that tend to matter most.
This guidance is meant to simplify planning, not add complexity. Many guests find that once they understand a few key points, the rest of the trip falls into place naturally.
During a stay, support remains local and personal. There is a real team on the ground that knows the homes, the roads, and the rhythms of the area. Questions are answered by people who are nearby and familiar with the context — not by a remote call center or automated system.
Sometimes support means arranging something specific, such as transportation, groceries, or a private chef. Sometimes it’s answering a quick question. Often, it’s simply reassuring guests that what they’re experiencing is normal for this part of Costa Rica. Concierge, for us, is not about selling activities or filling itineraries; it’s about helping the stay feel smooth.
Most of the time, guests don’t need much — and that’s exactly how it should feel. Quiet support in the background, and the sense that if something does come up, there’s someone nearby who knows the situation and can help.
The level of involvement is intentional and balanced. Guests are given space to enjoy the home privately, while knowing that support is available if needed. Communication is clear, responsive, and practical, without being intrusive.
Whether it’s a simple question, a logistical detail, or something that requires attention at the home, guests are not navigating it alone — and at the same time, privacy and independence are always respected. Many guests later describe the experience as feeling more personal than a typical vacation rental and more relaxed than a hotel.
Yes. All Pura Villas homes are supported locally. Our team lives in the region, understands the seasons, knows the roads, and is familiar with the realities of living in a tropical, coastal environment. This local presence allows for clearer communication, faster response, and guidance that reflects what it’s actually like to be here.
It also means expectations can be set honestly and accurately. Guests are rarely surprised once they arrive, because what they experience aligns with what they were told.
Most guests who choose Pura Villas are looking for privacy, comfort, and a more personal way of experiencing Costa Rica. This often includes families traveling together, couples seeking space and quiet, groups of friends sharing a home, and guests celebrating special occasions or simply taking time away from busy routines.
Our homes tend to suit guests who enjoy nature, value personal space, and feel comfortable being slightly outside resort zones. While many are first-time visitors to Costa Rica, they are usually curious, flexible, and open to a different rhythm.
Guests looking for nightlife at their doorstep or a highly structured resort environment may find this area less aligned with their expectations. Guests looking for a private home, thoughtful support, and a chance to experience this region more naturally often feel very at ease here.
Many guests arrive focused on the home itself and leave talking about the people behind it. They mention feeling supported without being managed, having questions answered clearly, and knowing help was available without feeling watched or interrupted. For many, this balance is what allows them to relax quickly and settle into the experience.
Once this context is clear, the practical details of travel, logistics, daily life, and planning tend to feel much easier — which is exactly what the rest of this Knowledge Hub is here to help with.
